About the SSF

The Forum is a membership organisation for the over 55s in the Borough of Swindon, offering both information and opportunities to socialise with like-minded people. We maintain our independence from external influences to give you a louder voice and equal say on matters which impact on your life. We aim to keep you informed of our work and keep you updated on all local and national issues of particular interest to older people.

The Forum is run by a management committee of volunteers elected by the members and we aim to hold at least two open meetings/events each year, one of which incorporates our Annual General Meeting.

See Documents for our Constitution, policies and information leaflets (to come).

Membership is free, on completion of a simple joining form available from the Secretary (see Contact Us).

In The Beginning

In 2011 David Brown, representing the retired community service volunteers, and Carol Brownlee, representing Swindon Walcot and Parks Community Group, were invited to the South West Seniors Forum conference in Taunton. Since there was nothing like this going on in Swindon, they decided they would try to set up something along similar lines. The Forum was thus established, under the name of Swindon Older Peoples Forum (SOPF). The name was changed by agreement of the members in 2016.

Over the years the Forum has grown in membership, scope and influence.
