2018 Annual General Meeting and open event

The 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Tuesday 2 October in the main hall at the Pinetrees Community Centre. It was attended, by special invitation, by several people from the Nepalese community, as well as existing Forum members. Photographs will be available here in due course.

The official AGM business in the morning was followed by a talk from guest speaker Paul Coyne, Operations Manager at the Swindon Bus Company (previously Thamesdown), with opportunities for questions and discussion. Paul later remarked that he was pleasantly surprised at the overall reception given to him and his colleagues.

The Forum's 2017-18 Annual Report, Income & Expenditure Report and revised Constitution (see Documents page) presented by the Management Committee were approved by the membership.

After a buffet lunch the Swindon Mayor, Councillor Junab Ali, opened the afternoon session celebrating the International Day of Older Persons and we later were entertained by U3A Merryfolk. Participants were also able to browse a number of useful and interesting stalls throughout the day.

The Mayor welcomed the members, stallholders and guests in three different languages. He emphasised the need for older people to get together and commented that in not so many years he would be one of us. He spent time talking to the stall holders and expressed an interest in the Men in Sheds project, which he had not heard of before. Before he left he thanked the SSF for the invitation and said he thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. He also extended an invitation to members for a small function in the Mayor's Parlour in 2019.

Income on the day from a raffle of prizes bought or donated raised £56; a voucher for a meal worth £50 was auctioned for £30. Arjun Gurung from the Himalayan Kitchen Restaurant presented a cheque for £51.00 to the Forum and £20 was donated by Swindon Carers.
